1. Overview

Rudnicki Law respects your privacy. This Privacy Statement explains what personal information we collect through this website, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information. We collect only the information you voluntarily provide through our contact form and limited, anonymized analytics data to help us understand how our website is used. We do not collect comments, user-generated content, or any information beyond what is described below.

2. Information We Collect

We collect personal information from only two sources:

A. Information You Provide Voluntarily (Contact Form)

When you use the contact form on our website, we collect the information you choose to provide, which may include:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Your phone number (if provided)
  • The content of your message (please do not include details about your legal matter)

We only collect this information when you actively submit the contact form. We do not collect it passively or from any other source.

B. Analytics Data (Matomo)

We use Matomo, a privacy-focused, open-source web analytics platform, to understand how visitors use our website. Matomo is self-hosted on our own server located in Canada. No data is sent to Matomo’s developers or any third party.

Matomo collects anonymized technical data, which may include:

  • Pages visited and time spent on those pages
  • The referring website (how you arrived at our site)
  • Browser type and version
  • Device type (desktop, mobile, tablet)
  • Approximate geographic location (country/region level only)
  • Anonymized IP address (the last two octets are removed immediately)

What Matomo does NOT collect:

  • Your name, email, or any identifying personal information
  • Any data that can be linked back to you as an individual

We have configured Matomo to:

  • Anonymize IP addresses before recording them
  • Respect “Do Not Track” browser settings
  • Not share analytics data with any third party
  • Automatically delete analytics data after 12 months

Cross-Border Data Transfer: Although our practice is based in Edina, Minnesota, USA, the server hosting our analytics data is physically located in Canada. By using this website, you consent to your anonymized analytics data being transferred to and processed in Canada.

3. What We Do NOT Collect

This website:

  • Does not collect comments or user-generated content
  • Does not use social media tracking pixels
  • Does not use Google Analytics or any third-party advertising trackers
  • Does not use remarketing or retargeting technologies
  • Does not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes

4. How We Use Your Information

Contact Form Data We use the information you submit through the contact form solely for the purpose of:

  • Responding to your inquiry
  • Evaluating whether we can assist you with your legal matter
  • Scheduling consultations, if appropriate
  • Communicating with you about your inquiry

Note: Submitting a contact form does not create an attorney-client relationship. Any information you include in your message should not contain sensitive or confidential legal details until an attorney-client relationship has been formally established.

Analytics Data We use Matomo analytics data solely to:

  • Understand which pages are most useful to visitors
  • Identify and fix technical issues
  • Improve the overall experience of our website

Analytics data is never used to identify individual visitors or to make decisions about specific individuals.

5. Legal Basis for Processing

Depending on applicable law, we process your personal information on the following legal bases:

  • Contact form submissions: Legitimate interest in responding to inquiries and potentially entering into a professional relationship, or performance of a contract if you engage our services.
  • Matomo analytics data: Legitimate interest in maintaining and improving our website, or consent where required by applicable law (such as the EU ePrivacy Directive).

6. Cookies

Our website uses a limited number of cookies through Matomo analytics. These cookies are:

  • First-party cookies (set by our website, not by a third party)
  • Used solely for analytics purposes
  • Not used for advertising, tracking across other websites, or profiling

You can manage or disable cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect the functionality of some website features.

Matomo cookie details:

  • _pk_id.* — Distinguishes unique visitors — Duration: 13 months
  • _pk_ses.* — Tracks session activity — Duration: 30 minutes
  • mtm_consent (or mtm_consent_removed) — Records your consent or refusal of tracking — Duration: 30 years / session

7. Data Retention

  • Contact form submissions: Retained for as long as reasonably necessary to address your inquiry, or as required by applicable bar rules or law. If you become a client, your information is retained according to our client record retention policy.
  • Matomo analytics data: Automatically deleted after 12 months.
  • Matomo cookies: As described in Section 6 above.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Right to Access — Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Right to Rectification — Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Right to Erasure — Request deletion of your personal data
  • Right to Restrict Processing — Request that we limit how we use your data
  • Right to Object — Object to our processing of your data based on legitimate interests
  • Right to Data Portability — Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format

For EU/EEA residents: These rights are guaranteed under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority in your country.

For California residents: You have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to request deletion, and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information.

9. Third-Party Services

We do not send any personal information to third-party services. We use Matomo, an open-source web analytics platform, which is self-hosted on our own server in Canada. No analytics data is transmitted to Matomo’s developers or any other third party.

10. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect the personal information collected through this website, including SSL/TLS encryption for data in transit, access controls limiting who can view contact form submissions, and regular updates to our website software and plugins. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Children’s Privacy

This website is not directed at children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

12. Changes to This Privacy Statement

We may update this Privacy Statement from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Last Updated” date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
